Weekly nuggets come from a brainstorm the class does together every Thursday to review the most important concepts discussed during that week in class.

Cognitive Classes

Organization

  • Analyzing is an important step of the organizational process.
  • The class discussed a variety of techniques to help when derailments occur.
  • Organizing From the Inside Out Psychological errors include: need for abundance; unclear goals and priorities; conquistador of chaos; fear of success or failure; need for distraction; fear of loss of creativity; dislike of space; sentimental attachment; need for direction; need for perfection.

Note-taking

  • The class reviewed the features of Notability, including the audio sync feature.

Optimizing Brain Fitness (The Great Courses)

  • We need to find a balance between our automatic and controlled processing.
  • Impulsivity occurs when the automatic processing system takes over.
  • Indecision occurs when the controlled processing system takes over.
  • We learned the difference between memory and working memory and attention.

Computer Lab

  • Reviewed an article written by Michelle that suggests steps for app selection.
  • Google currently has 6 data servers.
  • 5 Layer cake of cyberspace: geography, physical infrastructure, logic layer, cyber personas, people
  • Anonymity is the rule rather than the exception on the Internet.

Psychosocial

  • We learned about sequencing and strategy formation related to the frontal lobes.
  • Sequencing is functioning that helps us with planning and carrying out the plan by doing things in the correct order.
  • Strategy formation incorporates a variety of functions such as critical thinking skills.
  • Frontal lobes are involved with utilizing feedback, initiation, judgement, sequencing, strategy formation.
