Problem Solving
- Problem solving is actually a process, it’s not wise to just jump straight to a solution.
- Your first attempt at identifying a problem isn’t always correct.
- Problem solving can be overwhelming, so break it down into manageable chunks.
- Write the entire problem-solving process down!
- Brainstorming is important; keep it short; write it down; there are no bad ideas.
- Identifying the purpose, write the problem down, and keep a log of which solutions worked and didn’t work.
- Problem solving steps:
- Identify the problem
- Structure the problem
- Look for possible solutions
- Make a decision/Choose a solution
- Implement a solution
- Monitor the solution
- Seek feedback
- It’s important to consider how the problem impacts not only you, but also others.
- Ask for help from others based on their experience with similar problems.
Note-taking Strategies
- The way you structure your notes is important for organizational purposes.
- Evernote can be used for
- note-taking
- storage of articles, receipts, business cards
- audio notes
- clipping from the Web
Internal Memory Techniques
- Scheduling matters!
- The more organized information is when entered, the easier it is to remember and apply it.
- Linking items to each other can help with internal memory.
- Associate what you are trying to remember with something that you already know.
- Sharing information you want to remember with others is a great strategy.
- Use the first letter of a list of items (mnemonics) to help you remember the list (e.g., WRAP – Write, Repeat, Associate, Picture).
